Uploading a Script
Uploading a Script
SceneItAll accepts screenplays in multiple industry-standard file formats. You can upload up to 10 scripts at once, assigning each to an episode and a revision color.
Prerequisites
- You must be a member of a project with admin permissions.
- The project needs at least one episode. If you haven’t created episodes yet, you can do so from the episode panel in the Scripts section.
Supported File Formats
| Format | Extension |
|---|---|
| Final Draft | .fdx |
| Fountain | .fountain |
| Highland | .highland |
| Celtx | .celtx |
.pdf | |
| Microsoft Word | .docx |
| Rich Text Format | .rtf |
| Plain Text | .txt |
The maximum file size is 20 MB per file.
How to Upload
- Navigate to the Scripts section using the sidebar.
- If no scripts have been uploaded yet, you’ll see the upload screen automatically. Otherwise, open the revision selector (the revision pill at the top of the screen) and choose Upload Revision.
- On the upload screen, either:
- Drag and drop files onto the drop zone, or
- Click the drop zone to open a file picker and select files manually.
- For each file, configure:
- Episode — Select which episode this script belongs to from the dropdown.
- Revision Color (optional) — Choose a revision color (White, Blue, Pink, Yellow, Green, Goldenrod, Buff, Salmon, Cherry, Tan, or Gray).
- Click Upload (or “Upload N Scripts” when uploading multiple files).
During Upload
- A progress bar shows overall upload progress.
- Each file shows its individual status:
- Spinner while uploading
- Green checkmark on success
- Red error icon on failure (hover to see the error message)
- You can remove a file from the list before uploading by clicking the X button next to it.
After Upload
Once all files upload successfully, you’re automatically taken to the script viewer where you can read the most recently uploaded script.
If some files fail, you’ll see a summary (e.g., “2 of 3 uploaded, 1 failed”). You can fix the issue and try the failed files again.
Uploading a New Revision
When a new draft of an existing script arrives:
- Open the revision selector (the revision pill at the top of the screen).
- Choose Upload Revision — the + item in the dropdown (admin only). This opens the upload-revision dialog, which links the new file to the current script as a new revision.
- Choose the revision color to match your production’s revision tracking, then upload.
Tips
- Final Draft (.fdx) and Fountain (.fountain) formats parse most reliably since they carry structural information (scene headings, dialogue, action, etc.).
- Assign revision colors consistently. The industry-standard order is: White, Blue, Pink, Yellow, Green, Goldenrod, Buff, Salmon, Cherry, Tan, Gray.
- You can upload multiple scripts for different episodes in one batch. Just make sure to set the correct episode for each file.
- If the episode dropdown is empty, you need to create an episode first from the episode panel.
