Script Revisions
Script Revisions
In production, scripts go through many drafts. SceneItAll tracks each draft as a revision, color-coded using the industry-standard revision color system.
Revision Colors
Each revision is assigned a color that follows the standard order used across the film and television industry:
| Order | Color | Typical Usage |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | White | Original draft |
| 2nd | Blue | First revision |
| 3rd | Pink | Second revision |
| 4th | Yellow | Third revision |
| 5th | Green | Fourth revision |
| 6th | Goldenrod | Fifth revision |
| 7th | Buff | Sixth revision |
| 8th | Salmon | Seventh revision |
| 9th | Cherry | Eighth revision |
| 10th | Tan | Ninth revision |
| 11th | Gray | Tenth revision |
After Gray, the cycle restarts (often called “Double White,” “Double Blue,” etc.).
The Revision Selector
At the top of the screen, the revision selector (the version pill) displays the current revision’s label (e.g., “Blue” or “V2”). Click it to open a dropdown listing every revision for the current episode, plus revision-management actions: Upload Revision, Revision Settings, and Show Archived.
Each revision in the dropdown shows:
- Its color label or version name.
- A star (to set it as the default) and a checkmark on the current one.
Click any revision to switch to it. The script body updates immediately.
Uploading a New Revision
When a new draft arrives:
- Open the revision selector dropdown and choose Upload Revision (the + item, admin only).
- The upload-revision dialog opens, pre-linked to the current script.
- Select your file and choose the appropriate revision color.
- Click Upload.
The new revision appears in the revision selector dropdown.
Renaming or Recoloring a Revision
Renaming, recoloring, archiving, and deleting a revision all happen in the Revision Settings dialog:
- Select the revision you want to change (click it in the dropdown).
- Open the revision selector dropdown again and choose Revision Settings (the gear item, admin only).
- Edit the revision name (type a custom label) and/or pick a standard color from the Revision color dropdown.
- Click Save.
Archiving a Revision
To remove a revision from the active list without deleting it:
- Select the revision, then open Revision Settings from the revision selector dropdown.
- Click Archive Revision in the dialog.
Archived revisions are viewable and restorable via Show Archived at the bottom of the revision selector dropdown.
Deleting a Revision
Deleting is permanent and removes the revision and all its scenes.
- Select the revision, then open Revision Settings from the revision selector dropdown.
- Click Delete Revision (shown in red).
- A confirmation dialog warns that the revision and all its scenes will be removed. Confirm to proceed.
This action cannot be undone.
Tips
- Assign revision colors consistently across your production. The entire team relies on colors to quickly identify which draft they’re looking at.
- You can rename revisions to use custom labels if your production doesn’t follow the standard color order.
- When a new revision is uploaded, it becomes the active one automatically.
