Create and manage production units

Production units let parallel crews work under the same project — for example, Main Unit, 2nd Unit, or Splinter Unit. Units are project-scoped and are reused by Breakdown, Schedule, call sheets, and other downstream report views. Every new project starts with a default Main Unit.

Before you start

  • A project is selected.
  • Any project role can view the unit list.
  • Adding a unit needs the member role or higher. Editing or deleting a unit needs the admin role or higher.

Open Production Units

  1. Open Global Settings from the settings cog.
  2. Open Schedule → Production Units.

Each unit row shows its name, a DEFAULT badge when applicable, and current strip/page totals. Schedule unit dots and badges are always blue, even when a unit has a saved Call Sheet color.

Add a unit

  1. Select Add Unit.
  2. Enter the unit details:
    • Name — required, for example 2nd Unit.
    • Description — optional context about the crew or purpose.
    • Call Sheet color code — an optional six-digit hex color such as #3B82F6. It is used by the Call Sheet Library; Schedule continues to show units in blue.
    • Shoot days — an optional planned count. This is descriptive planning data and does not create shoot days.
    • Start date and End date — optional planned dates. They do not schedule scenes or create day rows.
  3. Select Create.

The new unit appears immediately in unit selectors used by scenes, strips, and shoot days.

Edit a unit

Select the pencil icon on a unit row, update the same fields, and select Save. Unit changes refresh Schedule and other computed views that carry unit names or colors. Persisted documents keep their saved values until their own refresh or re-snapshot action.

Assign work to a unit

  • Choose a unit while adding or editing a shoot day. See Add and edit shoot days.
  • Choose a unit on a strip when a scene needs to be handled by a different crew. See Add strips and banners.
  • Use the unit filter on the Strip Board to focus one unit’s schedule.

Day numbering is maintained within each production unit, so Main Unit Day 1 and 2nd Unit Day 1 can both exist.

Delete a unit

The default Main Unit cannot be deleted. A non-default unit can be deleted only after its assigned schedule days and strips have been moved to another unit or removed.

  1. Move or delete every shoot day assigned to the unit. Reassign or remove any remaining strips.
  2. Select the trash icon on the unit row.
  3. Confirm Delete.

If the unit still owns a schedule day or strip, deletion is rejected and the unit remains unchanged.
