Merge scenes

Merge two or more production scenes when they need to be handled as one operational scene. SceneItAll creates a new combined scene; it does not overwrite the selected source scenes.

Before you start

  • You are a project Owner or Admin.
  • The scenes you want to combine are visible in the selected episode’s Breakdown.

Create a merged scene

  1. Open one of the source scenes in the scene detail view.
  2. Open Scene actions and choose Merge scenes…. The current scene is selected automatically.
  3. Select at least one more scene.
  4. Under Merge order, drag the selected scenes into the order their screenplay content should follow.
  5. Review Merged scene number. It defaults to the scene you opened with M appended, but you can enter another unused number.
  6. Leave Hide the original scenes after merging selected if Breakdown should show only the new combined scene. Clear it if you need the source scenes to remain visible there.
  7. Select Merge.

SceneItAll opens the new merged scene after it is created.

What the merged scene contains

The order in the dialog determines which source is first and how the screenplay text is combined. The new scene:

  • combines the selected scenes’ screenplay content in that order;
  • adds their page lengths together;
  • keeps the first source scene’s heading metadata, synopsis, Screen Time, Set, Location, Script Day, Sequence, and Unit; and
  • includes the union of their tagged elements. If the same project element appears in several sources, its first occurrence supplies the scene-specific quantity, notes, and key-item flag.

The source scenes remain separate records. Hiding them affects normal Breakdown lists only; it does not delete them from the script. A merge cannot currently be reversed from the app, so review the order, new scene number, and visibility option before confirming.
